Cedar Crest College Receives $84,600 State GrantFunds to promote nursing education programs An $84,600 state grant awarded to Cedar Crest College will help promote and enhance the school's training program for nurses, according to State Senator Pat Browne (R-16th District). The Nursing Education Initiative Grant awarded to Cedar Crest College is intended to help the school expand its programs by providing faculty coordination and training services. The state Department of Labor and Industry also allows the grant to be used to hire a staff member who is dedicated to incorporating simulation technology into the classroom, providing more productive use of labs and increasing the number of students the nursing program can enroll. In addition, the $750,000 Nursing Education Initiative Grant program helps support partnerships between health care employers and nursing education programs statewide. The grants are part of a $2.5 million fund appropriated by the Legislature and targeted at reducing the state's nursing shortage. "Pennsylvania is facing a severe shortage of nurses and that could affect
the quality of health care we receive," Senator Browne said.
"The Nursing Education Initiative Grant program is intended to
address that shortage by working with schools to develop and
promote additional opportunities that will enable more
Pennsylvanians to enter the nursing profession and work here
after graduation." Matt Moyer
