  • Senate Bill 596 (Senator Orie):  amends Titles 24 (Education) and 71 (State Government) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes to provide for a centrally administered statewide retirement system for all local government police employees.
    • Summary of Senate Bill 596
      • Amendment A05755 - This amendment is a technical amendment to change the date references contained in SB 596, which was re-introduced this session based on a prior version of the legislation, and included dates of 2005, 2006, and 2007 for certain sections.  Since these dates have now passed, A05755 changes all date references to 2005 to 2009, all date references to 2006 to 2010, and all references to 2007 to 2011.

  • Senate Bill 1012 (Senator Regola):  Amends the Local Tax Enabling Act, prohibiting municipalities from collecting an amusement tax from fixed site amusement parks or water parks.
    • Summary of Senate Bill 1012
      • Amendment A03194 - This is a technical amendment which clarifies the intent of the legislation by inserting the word “park” after the word “amusement” on page 3, line 3.  Without this change, the legislation would prohibit municipalities from taxing all amusements, which could include theaters and museums.

  • Senate Bill 1093 (Senator Orie):  Amends Act 30 of 2006, further providing for applicability of certain benefit provisions for certain beneficiaries.  SB 1093 is intended to close an unintentional gap in the survivor benefit coverage provided in Act 30 of 2006 for a small number of surviving spouses of police officers who retired before the effective date of Act 30 of 2006, and died after the act’s affective date.
  • Senate Bill 1169 (Senator Dinniman):  Municipal Volunteer Emergency Responder Incentive Act.  This legislation provides municipalities the ability to give a local earned income tax credit of up to $400 to those who serve in the local volunteer fire department or local volunteer emergency medical service organization.

  • Senate Bill 1248 (Senator Rhoades):  Senate Bill 1248 amends the law governing Pennsylvania’s Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program in order to provide home heating fuel rebates to senior citizens and others who are eligible to receive property and rent assistance.  These home heating fuel rebates would be paid out of funds that have not been expended on property tax and rent rebates in 2007.
