Lehigh Valley Communities Receive Recycling Grants

State funding provided as “reward for performance”

Several Lehigh Valley communities recently received Recycling Performance Grants from the state Department of Environmental Protection, according to Senator Pat Browne.

The grants were based on the municipalities’ populations and the amount of materials recycled in 2005, Senator Browne said.

The City of Allentown, Lehigh County, received $546,849 based on 22,635.5 tons recycled.

South Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, received $170,406 based on 4,998.3 tons recycled.

East Allen Township, Northampton County, received $10,711 based on 557.5 tons recycled.

Allen Township, Northampton County, received $5,101 based on 279.2 tons recycled.

Bath Borough, Northampton County, received $3,905 based on 240.6 tons recycled.

Wind Gap Borough, Northampton County, received $3,524 based on 230.9 tons recycled.

Moore Township, Northampton County, received $1,720 based on 213.1 tons recycled.

“These grants show that recycling is working in communities, large and small across the Lehigh Valley. They reward the communities for their efforts and show that recycling does pay off, both in preserving our environment and in funds from the state,” Senator Browne said. “These grants are a tribute to the recycling efforts of the Lehigh Valley’s residents and businesses.”
