Browne presents $250k for Da
Vinci Discovery Center
State grant coincides with opening of new facility
State Senator Pat Browne, R-16th District, marked
the opening of the new Da Vinci Discovery Center of
Science and Technology facility by presenting the
organization with a $250,000 state grant Saturday.
"The opening of this new facility is a landmark
day for our community," Senator Browne said. "I
applaud the efforts of those who worked to make this
complex a reality and I was pleased to secure this
state grant to assist in those efforts."
The Da Vinci Discovery Center of Science and
Technology is a community-driven, non-profit
organization incorporated in 1995 as part of Lehigh
University. It became an independent organization in
1999, and it has managed partnerships with colleges
and universities, corporations, government
organizations, and more than 25 school districts
throughout the region. In 2003, it merged with
Leonardo Da Vinci's Horse, Inc., of Allentown.
The organization's mission is to promote
inquiry-based learning in science and technology for
children in Leonardo Da Vinci's image – thereby
promoting academic excellence in these crucial
disciplines. The Center provides every young person
with fun, hands-on educational opportunities through
its demonstration facility, its classroom outreach
initiatives, and its professional development
programs for teachers.
"The Da Vinci Discovery Center has played an
important role in improving the quality of science
and technology education for hundreds of area
students," Senator Browne said. "The new
state-of-the-art demonstration facility on the
campus of Cedar Crest College will provide even more
opportunities for it to enrich the lives of our
young people."
